Eddie Hearn Believes Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua Has To Happen
Eddie Hearn is confident Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will end up fighting one another before their careers are over.
Joshua has to rematch Oleksandr Usyk as he tries to reclaim his heavyweight titles and if he wins, the bout against Fury makes sense. It’s a massive fight, although it would’ve been bigger a few years ago. However, for Hearn, he says the Fury-Joshua fight is still one he wants to make in the future.
“I think the AJ Fury fight is still the fight,” Hearn said to The DAZN Boxing Show (via BoxingScene). “I had a guy come up to me today and ask ‘when’s AJ fighting Fury’. I’m kind of like ‘well that ship’s sailed a little bit, we’ve got a few things to work out still, and AJ is rematching Usyk’. And the guy says ‘oh is he? Well when’s the Fury fight then?’ That’s the fight that people still want to see and will always be there. The bigger the better. That fight, I promise you, will happen, whether that’s late this year or early next year. Fury vs. AJ is a dead cert to happen because it’s too big a fight not to.”
Anthony Joshua, as mentioned, is coming off the loss to Usyk back in September. The loss dropped him to 2-2 in the last four and if he loses to Usyk again, the Fury fight may never happen. The Brit may have a non-title bout next time out against Andy Ruiz Jr. as he waits for the winner of Joshua-Usyk 2. Fury is coming off a KO win over Deontay Wilder in the trilogy match after knocking out Wilder in the rematch in February of 2020. Those wins proved he is the heavyweight best and everyone else is chasing him.
Do you think we will ever see Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua as Eddie Hearn thinks?
