Eddie Hearn Claims Amanda Serrano ‘Don’t Want’ Katie Taylor Rematch
Eddie Hearn says Amanda Serrano isn’t interested in running it back with Katie Taylor.
Serrano and Taylor had arguably the biggest fight in women’s boxing history back in April at Madison Square Garden. It was a massive fight and a rather competitive one with Taylor edging out a decision.
After the fight, it seemed like an immediate rematch would be next but Eddie Hearn – who promotes Taylor – says Serrano and her team aren’t interested in the rematch right now.
“They don’t want that fight, unfortunately,” Hearn told Pro Boxing Fans. “I mean we’ve spoken to Jake Paul’s team. They don’t really want to go to Ireland. They don’t really want the rematch. And it’s kind of like, regardless of the offer, we don’t want to do the rematch.”
According to Hearn, he says it was disappointing to hear that Serrano didn’t want the rematch but he believes that she just wants to get a few wins to build back her confidence.
“I think they want to go away and build some confidence and get a win in August and maybe we can look at it next year,” Hearn said. “It’s very disappointing, because I love that fight. I think it’s a great fight and such a close fight. But yeah, it doesn’t look like it’s a fight that Amanda Serrano wants.”
Amanda Serrano dropped to 42-2-1 with the loss to Katie Taylor as before the loss, she was coming off a decision win over Miriam Gutierrez. She’s also the unified featherweight champ. Taylor, meanwhile, is 21-0 and many consider her to be right among the best women boxers of all time. In her career, she holds notable wins over Gutierrez, Cindy Serrano, Jennifer Han, and Firuza Sharipova among others.
