Eddie Hearn Confirms Initial Offer Has Been Made To Caleb Plant For Canelo Alvarez Fight
The wheels are finally in motion for a Canelo Alvarez vs. Caleb Plant fight.
As per Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, an initial offer has been sent to the team of Plant regarding a super-middleweight title unification clash with Alvarez.
Talks are currently ongoing but Alvarez’s goal remains becoming the undisputed king of 168 pounds as per Hearn. The date of his next fight is either September 11 or 18.
“Eddie Hearn has revealed that they’ve now made an initial offer to Caleb Plant’s team for the Canelo fight on DAZN,” Michael Benson tweeted. “He said talks are ongoing and undisputed remains Canelo’s #1 choice for his next fight on Sept 11th/18th. [@Boxing_Social]”
Alvarez currently holds the WBA, WBO and WBC super-middleweight titles with his last outing being a TKO win over Billy Joe Saunders in May to win the WBO strap.
The only title missing is the IBF strap currently held by Plant who last competed in January when he outpointed Caleb Truax. The American, however, doesn’t plan on losing to Alvarez and believes he’s a completely different fighter to Saunders.
