Eddie Hearn Expects Edgar Berlanga To Be A Different Fighter After Canelo Alvarez Loss
Eddie Hearn is expecting Edgar Berlanga to box much differently after his loss to Canelo Alvarez on Saturday.
Berlanga suffered his first defeat as he lost to Alvarez in a clear-cut decision. Following the loss, his promoter Eddie Hearn believes the loss and fight will do well for him.
“You never boxed anywhere near that level. That’s going to improve you. That level is so far above everybody else,” said Eddie Hearn to Matchroom Boxing (via BoxingNews24). “You were matching him in rounds. You never looked out of your depth, ever. Now, when you fight someone else, you’re going to be a different fighter,” said Hearn.
Eddie Hearn also believes that had Edgar Berlanga fought anyone else, he likely would have knocked them out. But, unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.
“You were unlucky because you hit him on the forehead there because if you had hit him on the chin, you’d have knocked him out,” said Hearn.
Despite the loss, Edgar Berlanga says he was proud of the way he fought and feels like a winner for how he competed against an all-time legend.
“I’m upset because at the end of the day I’m a winner,” Berlanga said. “I fought a legend tonight and did my best to represent Puerto Rico. We’re fighters and we try to throw our opponent off their game. I took his best shot and I knew I could take his punches and return them. I could have jabbed a lot more, but I was in there with a legend.”
With the loss, Edgar Berlanga is 22-1 as a pro and coming off the loss to Alvarez. Before that, he beat Padraig McCrory by TKO. He also has notable wins over Jason Quigley, Roamer Alexis Angulo, and Steve Rolls among others.
