Eddie Hearn: Katie Taylor Has To Fight Amanda Serrano
Katie Taylor remains undefeated in pro boxing and she may be due for a massive clash with Amanda Serrano.
Taylor is coming off a successful title defense against Jennifer Han this past Saturday (Sept. 4). The victory improved her pro boxing record to 19-0. This was her fourth undisputed female lightweight title defense.
After the fight, Taylor’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, said that the fight to make is Taylor vs. Serrano in 2022 (h/t DAZN).
“I think she fights again in December and then she has to fight Amanda Serrano. It’s not her fault that fight hasn’t been made, it was a mixture of many things, but that’s the past. I think we have to. Amanda Serrano fancies that fight and has raised her profile, she brings tremendous value and she should be rewarded for that value,” he explained.
“I think we can headline Madison Square Garden with that fight, by far and away the biggest fight in women’s boxing. We have to do that fight, if we don’t, it’ll be a piece missing of a wonderful career.”
Serrano is the WBC, WBO, and IBO Female Featherweight Champion. She hasn’t lost a fight since April 2012. It was the only defeat of her career and she’s gone on a 27-fight winning streak. Serrano was last seen in action back in August, defeating Yamileth Mercado via unanimous decision.
After her victory over Han, Katie Taylor said her goal is to retire as an undefeated champion. She said that anyone standing in her way can share the ring with her, including Serrano.
“I am willing to fight anyone at any weight, I want the big fights. I want to be involved in the biggest fights possible. I’m fairly sure I will finish my career undefeated as a multiple weight, undisputed champion.”
