Eddie Hearn Plans To ‘Aggressively’ Pursue Gervonta Davis Once His Contract Is Up
Eddie Hearn is interested in becoming the newest promoter of Gervonta Davis.
Davis is currently fighting under Mayweather Promotions banner and has been managed by Al Haymon of Premier Boxing Champions. However, recently, it has been revealed that his promotional contract is close to being up and many expect him to test free agency. If he does just that, Hearn is hoping he can make a deal to have Davis fight under the Matchroom boxing banner.
“I’ve seen Gervonta Davis post stuff about other promotional companies approaching him,” Hearn told The DAZN Boxing Show (via BoxingScene). “I’m not aware of his contractual position so I won’t be directly approaching him. But I can approach him on here and tell him that once his contract does expire, of course we would be willing to make him a fantastic offer. I know Gervonta. He’s a great young fighter. He’s one of the biggest stars in the game. Time for him to get what he needs. Time for him to get what he wants if he’s not happy.”
If Davis does sign with Hearn and Matchroom boxing, they would be able to make some massive fights right away. One of those fights would be Ryan Garcia, and although Garcia fights under Golden Boy, both Golden Boy and Matchroom have deals with DAZN so the deal would be much easier given they broadcast on the same platform. Along with that, Hearn has worked with Devin Haney before, so he thinks signing Gervonta Davis makes the most sense.
“Again we don’t want to get involved in [Davis’ contractual status],” Hearn said. “There’s a great fight with Ryan Garcia on DAZN to be made with Golden Boy. There’s a great fight with Devin Haney after those two fights. We would certainly be looking to pursue Gervonta Davis extremely aggressively if he was in a position in which he was no longer under contract.”
