Eddie Hearn Praises Canelo Alvarez’s Mindset: ‘He Probably Thinks He Can Beat Anthony Joshua’
Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn could only heap praise on the mentality of Canelo Alvarez.
Alvarez recently made history by becoming the unified super middleweight champion following his TKO victory over Caleb Plant.
As for his next fight, the Mexican certainly has options — and across multiple divisions too.
The fact that he’s willing to fight in multiple divisions, especially the higher weight classes where he is clearly outsized, only further reiterates his case as the pound-for-pound best boxer in the world.
And according to Hearn, who has been promoting Alvarez’s recent fights, the 31-year-old’s mindset is such that he believes he’s unbeatable at the moment (via Michael Benson).
“When you’re around someone like Canelo Alvarez, you start to realize the importance of confidence and mindset of a fighter,” Hearn said in a recent interview. “He thinks he’s completely unbeatable. He probably thinks he can beat Anthony Joshua, that’s his mentality.”
While he is unlikely to compete at heavyweight, Alvarez did appear slated to face Ilunga Makabu for his WBC cruiserweight title.
However, recent reports stated he has received offers to fight the likes of Jermall Charlo, Dmitry Bivol and Gennadiy Golovkin.
As far as Hearn is concerned, Charlo is the easiest of the fights available.
“I see Gennady Golovkin as a much more brutal fight than Jermall Charlo and I see Dmitry Bivol as a much more technically tricky fight than Charlo, but Charlo’s also a great fighter,” Hearn added. “I think Charlo’s the easiest fight of the three.”
Given that Golovkin and Bivol are partnered with Hearn, those comments are no surprise.
Regardless, who do you think Canelo Alvarez should fight next?
