Eddie Hearn Reveals Anthony Joshua Options For Interim Fight, Top Choice Is Deontay Wilder
Anthony Joshua does not want an easy fight while he waits for Oleksandr Usyk.
Joshua was initially set to take on Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch for his heavyweight titles.
However, with Usyk in Ukraine amid the ongoing Russia invasion, it looks highly likely any rematch will have to wait.
Wanting to remain active, Joshua is now targeting a fight in the interim with promoter Eddie Hearn revealing it would likely take place in May or June.
Joshua’s top choice? According to Hearn, it’s former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (via Michael Benson).
“Anthony Joshua’s “top choice” for his next fight would probably be Deontay Wilder, Eddie Hearn has said, assuming Oleksandr Usyk is unavailable. Hearn revealed AJ has also picked out Luis Ortiz, Otto Wallin and Joe Joyce as he does not want an easy interim fight.”
Hearn went on to praise “AJ” for his resume and believes with everyone counting him out, the former champion is ready to run through anyone in his path.
“It’s the best résumé in heavyweight boxing bar none,” Hearn said. “Even now, he’s a fighter and I think his back’s up a little bit where he’s saying, ‘Right, okay, I got beat, you don’t rate me anymore? Give me the guys, I’ll go through them.'”
