Eddie Hearn Reveals Conor Benn vs. Chris Eubank Jr. Likely To Take Place In January
Eddie Hearn says Conor Benn vs. Chris Eubank Jr. likely won’t be taking place in December after all.
There was some talk that Benn and Eubank Jr. would be rebooked to fight on Dec. 23 in a highly-anticipated matchup. The two were supposed to fight but Benn failed a drug test which stopped the fight from happening.
Now, according to Hearn, he says the plan was to have them fight on Dec. 23, but with that being the day of Fury vs. Usyk, the promoter says they are now looking at January.
“December 23 is eight weeks,” Hearn told Boxing Social. “We’ve been told Usyk’s fighting Fury, who knows, so for us Benn-Eubank looks difficult on that date. What we are going to do is make that fight, I believe, for January. I think that fight will get made in the next couple of days, touch wood, and we’re going to do it in England and it’s going to be one of the biggest fights the country has ever seen.”
Eddie Hearn also expects to announce the fight very soon, and knows it will be a highly-anticipated matchup.
“[Eubank promoter] Kalle and [Matchroom president] Frank [Smith], myself, everybody’s working around the clock to get the deal over the line,” Hearn said. “Fingers’ crossed we can give Britain a mega fight that it needs because we’ve got some great shows, we’ve got some great fights, but we need those stadium fillers. Benn-Eubank don’t get much bigger.”
Conor Benn is currently 22-0 and coming off a decision win over Rodolfo Orozco back in September. Chris Eubank Jr., meanwhile, is 33-3 and avenged his loss to Liam Smith last time out.
