Eddie Hearn Says Adrien Broner Has Turned Down Conor Benn Twice
Adrien Broner has declined to fight Conor Benn twice, according to promoter, Eddie Hearn.
After Benn beat Adrian Granados by unanimous decision earlier this month, he called for a fight with Broner. Many thought it is the fight to make and Benn even said he’d go to the States to make it happen.
“I’ll have Broner next,” declared Benn when speaking with TalkSport. “I’ll have Broner here at the O2, I’ll have him at a stadium out in America, it doesn’t bother me. Broner is definitely an opponent I’d love to fight and share the ring with this year. Four-time world division champion, I won’t shy away from anybody and if he wants it, I’ll give it to him. That’s not a problem.”
However, according to Hearn, he has contacted Broner twice but he rejected both. It is a fight they still want and are working on. The goal is for the promoter to find more money to pay Broner to fight Benn in the near future.
“I’ve made Adrien Broner two offers now to fight Conor Benn,” Hearn told Pro Boxing Fans (via Boxingscene). “Both have been rejected. We’ll see if we can find the money.”
Conor Benn (19-0) is coming off a decision win over Adrian Granados back on September 4. Prior to that, he TKO’d Samuel Vargas in the first round. He is considered one of the top prospects in boxing and he looks to prove he is a legit title contender with a fight against Broner.
Adrien Broner (34-4-1) is coming off a victory over Jovanie Santiago in his return after losing to Manny Pacquiao by decision. It was a disappointing performance as it was a closer fight than many expected it to be.
