Eddie Hearn Says Haney-Kambosos Jr. Rematch Is ‘Not Appealing Because of The First Fight’
Eddie Hearn believes Devin Haney vs. George Kambosos Jr. 2 is not a fight the fans want to see.
After Haney dominated Kambosos Jr. to become the new WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight title as well as being the WBC champ. After the fight, Kambosos Jr. made it clear he would trigger his rematch clause which he did but for Hearn, he doesn’t like the fight.
“That’s a tough one,” Hearn told IFL TV. “When they signed that deal—obviously I was competing in that deal, so I know the numbers. They’ve got to find a way to find the money to do Kambosos-Haney in Australia. The fight is not appealing because of the first fight. So I don’t know who’s gonna pay for that fight, and that means it’s going to be difficult, because if you’re George Kambosos, he must make sure that he gets that rematch in Australia because that’s what was agreed. But I don’t know where they get the money from to do it.”
Devin Haney and George Kambosos Jr. 2 will reportedly take place on October 16 at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia. For Hearn, he believes this is the perfect fight for Haney as he will make a ton of money for another easy fight.
“If you’re Devin Haney you’re sitting pretty because you’re saying I’m gonna make a fortune in the rematch and I won the first fight easy and I’m gonna win the second fight easy,” Hearn said. “So I don’t know. Again I’m not involved in any way but it’s a bit of a—I could see how that throws out some problems, but maybe they get the funding and they just roll onto October.”
Do you agree with Eddie Hearn that people don’t care about Devin Haney vs. George Kambosos Jr. 2?
