Eddie Hearn Updates Conor Benn Ongoing Doping Saga
Eddie Hearn isn’t able to give an update on Connor Benn and his ongoing doping saga.
Benn was suspended after he failed a drug test before his fight against Chris Eubank Jr., and since then, he was adamant he was innocent. The WBC has since cleared him, but the British Boxing Board of Control and UKAD have yet to clear him, and Hearn says they are still waiting for that.
“It’s bound by confidentiality. That’s why you’ve seen no comment from the BBB of C, Benn, or UKAD. I guess together they will make a statement at some point,” Hearn said to IFLTV… “Does it hinder his next fight? There was nothing set. When the time is appropriate, there will be a statement. It’s been nearly two years, so it’s extremely frustrating, but we are where we are.”
Currently, Conor Benn is cleared to fight elsewhere in the world, but is waiting to be cleared to fight at home in the UK again.
Following the news of Benn being flagged, he made it clear he was innocent and vowed to be a champ very soon.
“My team have proven my innocence and the truth will soon come out. Until then, I won’t be commenting further due to confidentiality. I’m thankful to everyone who has supported me through this tough time… tough times don’t last, tough people do,” Conor Benn wrote. “We keep it moving and will continue to chase the end goal of being world champion – it’s a minor setback for a major comeback. For now, I am looking forward to sharing Christmas privately with my family and I will be back in January. See you all in 2023, the year I become world champion!”
Benn is currently 23-0 as a pro and coming off a decision win over Peter Dobson. Before that, he scored a decision win over Rodolfo Orozco in his return to the ring.
