Eddie Hearn Wants Gennadiy Golovkin vs. Demetrius Andrade Title Unification Bout
Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has proposed a middleweight title unification bout between Gennadiy Golovkin and Demetrius Andrade.
Golovkin is coming off a dominant and one-sided TKO victory over mandatory Kamil Szeremeta earlier this month to successfully defend his IBF and IBO middleweight titles.
While Golovkin has some freedom now in choosing his next opponent with many naturally calling for a trilogy with Canelo Alvarez, Hearn would like to see him unify the division against WBO middleweight champion Andrade instead.
“I think Demetrius Andrade. That’s the unification fight,” Hearn said on the Ak and Barak Show. “How long have we been searching for that standout fight for Demetrious Andrade?
“Ultimately, there’s Jaime Munguia as well which is a great fight but GGG should be looking to unify the division. … I’ll be saying to DAZN, ‘You have a contract with Andrade, you have a contract with Golovkin, let’s put these guys together.'”
Andrade is down for that matchup as well.
However, as Hearn mentioned, former WBO junior middleweight champion Munguia appears to be the frontrunner at the moment.
In the end, the decision is seemingly up to Golovkin and who he prefers to fight next.
