Edgar Berlanga Chasing First-Round Knockout Against Canelo Alvarez
Edgar Berlanga is eyeing a first-round knockout over Canelo Alvarez on Saturday, which would be a massive upset.
Berlanga is set for the biggest fight of his career as he takes on Alvarez on Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s a highly-anticipated fight, and although Alvarez is a massive favorite, Berlanga has confidence in himself.
Not only does Edgar Berlanga expect to beat Canelo Alvarez, but the undefeated boxer says he thinks he can get a first-round knockout.
“Anything can happen,” Berlanga said to Lance Pugmire of chasing a first-round knockout. “He knows that and I know that if I’m not alert, he can knock me out in the first round, too. In our weight class, everybody can punch, so you have to be alert at all times. If you lose focus for one second, that punch you don’t see can be the one that gets you.
“This is a violent sport. People die in the ring – seven, eight deaths a year in boxing. Anything can happen. So I take this sh*t personal. It’s not just me saying it now. I’ve said it my whole career. It’s either me or you,” Berlanga added.
Edgar Berlanga is a +1000 underdog against Canelo Alvarez. However, he has full confidence in his ability, and believes he will strive under pressure.
Berlanga knows he will be booed heavily, but he says that is something he will embrace all week up until he gets his hand raised.
“The moment’s here now. You’ve got to embrace it. The fans are going to be screaming. I’m going to be locked in on him,” Berlanga said. “It’s like the gladiators. When you go fight, you’ve got the arena, and you go in there to kill each other. That’s the mindset I’ve got. I’ve got to block everything out. Even the walkout. My mindset is on that guy.”
Berlanga is 22-0 as a pro and coming off a TKO win over Padraig McCrory. He also has notable wins over Steve Rolls, Roamer Alexis Angulo, and Jason Quiley.
