Errol Spence Jr. Explains Why He’s Worried About Terence Crawford’s Counterpunching
Errol Spence Jr. isn’t worried about Terence Crawford’s high-level counterpunching.
Crawford is one of the best counterpunchers and has the ability to switch stances which makes him difficult to fight. However, Spence Jr. points to Danny Garcia and his ability to counterpunch, and Spence Jr. beat him with ease which is why he isn’t worried about Crawford’s counterpunching ability.
“Danny Garcia the best counterpuncher in the world,” Spence Jr. said to FightHype. “He got highlight reel knockouts counterpunching, especially with his left hook and I canceled that out so I’m not too much worried about it… I got a long, long amateur, pro pedigree where I fought a lot of guys who were great counterpunchers so that never stopped me before.”
Errol Spence Jr. enters the fight at 28-0 and knows the matchup against Terence Crawford is one of the biggest fights in boxing. Spence Jr. knows the winner cements their legacy as an all-time great which excites Spence Jr.
“This is the biggest fight in boxing right now,” Spence Jr. said at a press conference. This is a legendary fight. It’s an old-school fight. This is like the fights my dad used to tell me about. It’s the best fighting the best… We had to get on the phone and talk about it, and now it’s finally happening,” Spence Jr. added. “This is going to prove not only who the best welterweight is, but who the best fighter in the world is. My mentality is to go all out and give everything. His mentality is the same.”
Errol Spence Jr. is coming off a TKO win over Yordenis Ugas and before that, beat Garcia by decision. In his career, he holds notable wins over Shawn Porter, Mikey Garcia, and Kell Brook among others.
