Ewa Brodnicka To Defend Her WBO Strap Against Mikaela Mayer On Oct 31.
Undefeated super featherweight Mikaela Mayer (13-0, 5 KO) has finally got the title fight she has been after. Top Rank announced today that the 30-year-old is to face Poland’s Ewa Brodnicka (19-0, 2 KO) on Saturday, Oct. 31, from the MGM Grand Las Vegas Conference Center.
Brodnicka is the current WBO female super featherweight world champion. This will be her sixth title defense and her first bout outside of Poland. The ten-round bout will serve as the card’s co-main event with the clash between WBA/IBF bantamweight world champion Naoya Inoue and Jason Moloney featuring as the main event.
“I’m more than prepared for this WBO world championship fight, and I will absolutely be going home with the belt. This fight will not go the distance. Ewa Brodnicka is not on my level, and her time is up. Tune in and watch me bring the championship belt to ESPN and Top Rank,” Mayer said.
Top Rank’s Bob Arum is confident that Mayer will be adding another title to the Top Rank trophy cabinet. He promised her a title shot after her recent unanimous decision victory over Nigeria’s Helen Joseph.
“We’ve watched her progress since her pro debut, and she has turned into one of the premier fighters in female boxing. This WBO belt will be the first of many world titles for Mikaela.”
For her part, Brodnicka is looking forward to finally getting the chance to compete overseas for the first time in her career.
“I am excited that my title defense against Mikaela is happening in America, where I’ve always wanted to fight. I am more than ready for this opportunity, and I would like to thank my promoters, Eddie Hearn and Mariusz Grabowski, for helping make this fight a reality.””
