Filip Hrgovic Claims He’s Next In Line For Heavyweight Title Shot
Filip Hrgovic thinks he will be getting the next heavyweight title shot.
Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are set to fight on February 17 in Saudi Arabia for the undisputed heavyweight titles. It’s a massive fight and the rumor is there will be a rematch clause which means the two will have to fight twice.
However, after that, Hrgovic says he is next in line to fight for the heavyweight title. The undefeated Croatian is set for a tune-up fight against Mark De Mori on December 23 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Should he win, Hrgovic says he will be next in line.
“I’m next in line for the heavyweight championship of the world,” Hrgovic confirmed during a kickoff press conference to announce the December 23 event (h/t BoxingScene). “I will fight the winner of [Oleksandr] Usyk versus [Tyson] Fury. Or if they vacate the title and want to do a rematch, I will fight the next best ranked fighter in the IBF rankings. That will be the winner of Anthony Joshua and Otto Wallin.”
Filip Hrgovic is currently 16-0 and coming off a TKO win over Demsey McKean back in August in what was another stay-busy fight. However, with Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder among those fighting on the Dec. 23 card, whether or not Hrgovic will get the next heavyweight title shot is to be seen.
But, regardless of what is next, Hrgovic knows 2024 will be very interesting for the heavyweight division.
“The next year will be very interesting,” noted Hrgovic.
In his career, Filip Hrgovic has notable wins over Zhilei Zhang, Rydell Booker, Eric Molina, and Kevin Johnson among others.
