Floyd Mayweather Reveals Who He Thinks Is The Best Boxer In The World Today
Floyd Mayweather still believes WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford is the best boxer in the world.
Mayweather recently appeared on ESPN’s First Take and was asked who he felt was the best fighter in the sport today.
“At one particular time, I did say Terence Crawford,” Mayweather responded. “But what are we rating these fighters on?”
Max Kellerman would respond by stating it was just going by Mayweather’s eye test and who he sees as the best boxer today. Given that his fighter in Gervonta Davis is fighting Leo Santa Cruz this weekend, Mayweather made sure to give him a shout in the conversation.
“”I look at it like this — Tank did the same thing Terence Crawford did to [Yuriorkis] Gamboa. [Gamboa was younger at the time] But guess what? There’s a difference. Terence Crawford is a much bigger fighter than Gervonta and he did the same thing that he did.
“So we can put Tank up there in the top 10, pound-for-pound. And Canelo [Alvarez] has done something that is amazing when Canelo was able to go up to light heavyweight and become light heavyweight champion. Something that I didn’t even see him going up that heavy and he did that.”
That said, “Bud” still remains Mayweather’s pick.
“”But as of right now, I have to put Terence Crawford as number one,” he concluded.
Crawford is regarded by many as the pound-for-pound best fighter in the sport, especially following Vasiliy Lomachenko‘s recent loss to Teofimo Lopez. He is set to defend his title against Kell Brook next on November 14.
