Former UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway Eyes Matchup With Gervonta Davis
Former UFC champion Max Holloway is looking for a crossover fight with Gervonta Davis.
Holloway has long considered himself the best boxer in the UFC and he saw what Conor McGregor did in his crossover fight with Floyd Mayweather and now he wants to crossover. The Hawaiian is in a weird spot in the UFC given he is 0-3 against the champion so he is looking for fun fights and big fights and he thinks there is nothing bigger than facing Davis in boxing.
“Let’s make a big fight with ‘Tank’ or something. Floyd Mayweather and ‘Tank,’ ‘Tank’ is following Floyd Mayweather’s recipe to the key,” Holloway told The MMA Hour. “So, why not fight an MMA guy and we do a big one? I can s**t talk to him.
“Just don’t put no hydration clause in it like how he did to my man Garcia,” Holloway continued. “That would be a fun one. “Everybody talking about that shot [KO punch against Garcia] like, ‘Oh, he would have got up, blah, blah,’ I’m like, ‘Bro, the hydration clause is real,’ He couldn’t rehydrate properly and that shot, it might not look hard, but to a dehydrated body that hurts a lot. That shot probably hurts a lot even if you’re not dehydrated. So, I can only imagine, man. And it came out the same day that he had a rat and he actually got hurt to the body and that sucks. At the end of the day, that was tough but I would love to do a big one. Maybe do [T-Mobile Arena] like they did the Conor [McGregor] stuff.”
Although Max Holloway wants to box Gervonta Davis, it seems highly unlikely it will happen. Dana White has been very reluctant to let his fighters box since he let McGregor do it. Davis, meanwhile, is also focused on getting titles and securing his legacy.
But, if Holloway vs. Davis does end up happening one day, it would be a big payday for Holloway and he’s confident he can surprise Davis.
