Francis Ngannou Says Plan Is To Get Tyson Fury Rematch Next
Francis Ngannou is hopeful to get a rematch with Tyson Fury next time out.
Ngannou is coming off a split decision loss to Fury in a fight that was much more competitive than many thought. The former UFC heavyweight champion had dropped Fury and many thought he should have won the fight.
Given how close it was, Francis Ngannou says he wants to rematch Tyson Fury next time out and that is what his focus is on.
“The rematch is what I want next the most,” Ngannou told TMZ Sports. “As for right now, I feel like there is a lot of options for me, but I want to choose wisely. And I would go for the rematch first.”
As of right now, Tyson Fury is booked to face Oleksandr Usyk in February for the undisputed heavyweight titles. It’s a massive fight, and Ngannou says he plans on waiting for Fury for that fight.
However, in the time being, Francis Ngannou isn’t ruling out returning to MMA to fight for the PFL and then face Tyson Fury in late 2024.
“My best scenario in boxing is to wait for Fury,” Ngannou said. “If Usyk can step out and let me fight Fury, I’ll fight Fury. Then I’ll let them do whatever they do. I’ll go back, maybe do some MMA fight and come back and take some people in boxing. I’m planning to fight potentially twice next year, maybe February or March.”
“If it doesn’t work, I can still fight February or March in MMA,” Ngannou continued. “Then expecting by the end of the year, this time October because it’s going to give me at least seven to eight months to recover from my MMA fight in case something happens.”
Do you think we see Francis Ngannou vs. Tyson Fury 2 sometime in 2024?
