Frank Martin Believes He Was Too Patient, Thinks He Could’ve Knocked Out Michel Rivera
Frank Martin believes he could’ve finished Michel Rivera if he was more aggressive.
Martin dominated the fight in a battle of undefeated contenders but Martin is frustrated he wasn’t more aggressive. He dropped Rivera with just over 30 seconds left in the seventh round but got back to his feet pretty quickly and avoided a second knockdown on his way to making it the distance.
Following a clear-cut decision win, Martin says he thinks he could’ve gotten the win if he was more aggressive.
“I felt like if I woulda pressed the gas more, you know, if I would just got on him, I feel like I coulda got him up out of there,” Martin told a group of reporters. “But I was kinda like patient, you know? I was a little too patient, I feel like. If I woulda just, after the round I dropped him in, if I woulda just went hard on him and just went out, I feel like I probably coulda got him up out of there.”
Although he didn’t get the stoppage, Frank Martin was pleased with his performance as he believes he pitched a shutout.
“I mean, it’s cool, you know, like I said, if a stoppage came,” Martin said. “I’m always ready to go the distance. You know what I mean? We always train the rounds to go the distance. So, it ain’t never a disappointment, you know, if you get a shutout, you know, [over] a knockout. You know, I dropped the guy. We ain’t get the stoppage, but it’s all good… It was a couple rounds I felt like that if I woulda just pressed the gas, like he was kinda ready to go. You know, I could just tell by his body language.”
