Frank Warren Confident Joe Joyce Would KO Anthony Joshua
Frank Warren not only thinks Joe Joyce would beat Anthony Joshua, but he believes he would KO him.
Joshua returned to the win column earlier this month in a decision win over Jermaine Franklin. Yet, the former champ admitted it was not a good performance and many were critical of the way he fought as they think he lost his killer instinct. With that, Warren believes Joyce would KO Joshua should the two box sometime in the near future.
“I think Joe Joyce would knock him out,” Warren said during an interview posted to Queensberry Promotions’ YouTube channel (h/t BoxingScene). “As soon as he catches him. He will walk through him.”
Although Frank Warren believes Joe Joyce would KO Anthony Joshua, the fight is likely, not next. Instead, Joyce is set to take on Zhang Zhilei on Saturday as he defends his interim WBO heavyweight title.
Should he win, however, Warren is open to making the fight against Joshua as he believes Joshua needs to be a top contender which Joyce is.
“I mean, they wanna pick up the phone and talk to us about that, we’ll do that immediately, if Joe comes through,” Warren said. “Remember, Joe’s the interim champion, so he’s the gatekeeper to the mandatory [position], the WBO mandatory. He is the gatekeeper for that fight. So, if anybody wants it, they know what they’ve gotta do. They’ve gotta fight him. And if Joshua wants to get himself into that position, we’ll gladly, gladly accommodate him for that. I can speak on behalf of Joe because Joe has told me he wants the fight.”
As well, Frank Warren knows Joe Joyce has only gotten better while he thinks Joshua is getting older and not confident which plays a role in the fight.
“The interesting thing about it is,” Warren said, “they can look at all these old [Joyce] videos and dig up all this old crap from the past, and they need to keep looking there because that will hopefully give them some confidence. But when it gets down to the nitty gritty, when we get down to professional boxing, when we get down to that, when we look at improvement … AJ, no, there hasn’t been any improvement in him. But there’s definitely been an improvement in Joe Joyce.”
Do you agree with Frank Warren that Joe Joyce will KO Anthony Joshua if they fight?
