Frank Warren Reveals Tyson Fury Title Defense At Wembley This Summer Is Still Possible
Tyson Fury may still box this summer after all.
Fury was hopeful to face Oleksandr Usyk in April for the undisputed heavyweight titles. However, the negotiations fell through and many wondered if Fury would even fight again. However, it was revealed he may return on July 22 at Wembley.
One potential fight for Fury was Joe Joyce, but the Brit suffered a massive upset stoppage loss to Zhilei Zhang. However, that could lead to a Fury-Zhang fight if Joyce doesn’t trigger the rematch clause.
“Joe’s got that rematch clause, if he takes it, it’s obviously going to be a complication with anything to discuss alternative fights for him right now. And at the end of the day, Tyson’s the boss when it comes down to what he wants to do,” Warren said (h/t BoxingScene).
Although there is no clear-cut opponent for Tyson Fury, Frank Warren says a July fight at Wembley is very possible for the Brit. Yet, it all depends on Fury and if he wants to fight anyone but Usyk.
“If he wants to fight this summer, he’ll let us know, we’ll try to make it happen. We need to know pretty quickly to invoke something in the during the summer. Especially if we’re going to try and do something in a stadium in the UK, which is where he would need to fight to try and make it work here. But yeah, opponents, choices, that will all come down to a conversation with Tyson,” Warren said.
Tyson Fury is coming off a TKO win over Derek Chisora to retain his WBC heavyweight title and before that, he beat Dillian Whyte.
