Gennadiy Golovkin Fires Back At Andre Ward After Claims Of Turning Down Fight
Gennadiy Golovkin did not take too kindly to a recent accusation from Andre Ward.
On his birthday, Ward was asked by a fan on social media if there was a fight he wanted that didn’t happen before he eventually hung up his boots in 2017.
The former pound-for-pound king replied with three fights in particular.
One was a rematch with Carl Froch in the United Kingdom, another was a fight with Anthony Joshua, and the final one was a fight with Golovkin.
However, the American claims the fight was offered to Golovkin only for the latter to turn it down in less than five minutes.
“Froch, rematch in the UK; Golovkin, he turned it down in less than 5 min. A. Joshua, but I retired,” Ward tweeted.
Naturally, that accusation came across the radar of “GGG” who fired back at Ward.
“Andre, stop lying to the fans. Your team made the offer AFTER I announced the fight with Lemieux and sold out MSG. You are still angry since that you never sold tickets like me. HBO knew you used the offer for publicity to move to 175. Happy Birthday”
Ward would respond with a clip of Golovkin stating that he was too much for him. To which, Golovkin replied further:
“My English is getting better your memory is getting worse,” Golovkin responded.
A fight between the pair would have certainly been a highly intriguing one.
For now, Golovkin is set to face Ryota Murata and could face Canelo Alvarez in a trilogy fight afterward should he come out on top.
