Gennady Golovkin Believes Canelo Alvarez Thought He Was ‘Invincible’ Before Dmitry Bivol Loss
Gennady Golovkin thinks Canelo Alvarez thought he was better than he was which contributed to the loss to Dmitry Bivol.
Alvarez continued to move up in weight and seek new challenges to prove he is the best. However, eventually, the size played in a role as Bivol was much bigger than Alvarez and won a decision.
Now, according to Golovkin who is set to face Alvarez in the trilogy on Saturday, he believes the loss brought Alvarez back down to Earth.
“We all saw how he behaved, what he said about his possible fights with Usyk, Makabu, with fighting heavyweights,” Golovkin said through a translator. “And even now, he continues to say that he’s ready to take any challenge, that he’s not afraid. Maybe he just wants to kind of save face. But at the same time, we see that what he said during press conferences showed that he didn’t take Dmitry Bivol seriously and that fight seriously. So, I think he drew his conclusions that this loss kind of brought him back to Earth. And as a result, he will change.”
Not only does Gennady Golovkin think the loss brought Canelo Alvarez back to Earth, but he believes prior to the loss he thought he was invincible. The loss to Bivol proved he could be beaten and Golovkin plans to hand him his second loss in a row on Saturday night in Las Vegas.
“He probably lost touch with reality and believed that he was invincible,” Golovkin said.
Golovkin is on a four-fight win streak and coming off a TKO win over Ryoto Murata back in April. He also he earned stoppage wins over Kamil Szermeta and Steve Rolls while defeating Sergiy Derevyanchenko by decision in between.
