George Foreman Says Oleksandr Usyk Is The ‘Heavyweight King’ After Win Over Anthony Joshua
Boxing legend and former heavyweight champion, George Foreman believes Oleksandr Usyk is the heavyweight king, not Tyson Fury.
On Saturday, Usyk remained undefeated as he put on a clinic against Joshua to become the WBA (super), IBF, IBO, and WBO heavyweight champion. Although many view Fury as the best heavyweight, Foreman disagrees.
“Well high congratulations to the Heavyweight King,” Foreman tweeted when asked if Fury would be the favorite to defeat Usyk. “Usyk is the future for boxing now. ‘Come and get me’ He can say now to them all.”
If Usyk does get the chance to fight and beat Fury, he would join Evander Holyfield as the only boxers to be undisputed champions as cruiserweight and heavyweight.
As for Joshua, George Foreman believes in order for the Brit to beat Usyk in the rematch he will need to make some big changes including changing up his training camp. Joshua is now just 2-2 in his last four and many have been wondering if he still is one of the best heavyweights.
“Joshua has a future, and lots ability; but he has got to learn to push his own buttons. Some corners are just waiting on their fees; while we push for our destiny,” Foreman said (via TalkSport). “Just need help in training; that much on the line you need big training camp. Keep his trainer; but bring in help.”
With Joshua losing to Usyk, it ruins the Joshua-Fury fight which would’ve been one of the biggest boxing fights in years. For Frank Warren, Fury’s promoter, he said the Brit was disappointed in Joshua.
“He [Joshua] just wasn’t doing what you’d think a bigger guy would do,’ Warren told talkSPORT. “I spoke to Tyson during the fight and we were both of the same opinion. All Tyson could see was a massive big fight going down the drain, which is what happened.”
