George Kambosos Jr. Wants Australia Stadium Fight In May, Reveals Potential Opponents
George Kambosos Jr. wants a stadium in Australia for his next fight.
Kambosos recently won the WBA, IBF and WBO lightweight titles after a split decision win over Teofimo Lopez in November.
With no rematch clause and Lopez set to move up to 140 pounds anyway, the attention quickly turned to who Kambosos could face next.
Devin Haney is the obvious option as he holds the WBC belt and a fight between the pair would unify the lightweight division entirely. Former champion Vasiliy Lomachenko is also an option and could be ordered as his next opponent.
As far as Kambosos is concerned, he is fine with either Haney or Lomachenko — provided they are ready to travel to Australia and compete against him in a stadium in May (via Michael Benson).
“George Kambosos Jr has insisted that his next fight will be at a stadium in Australia in May. He said he likes Devin Haney, Vasyl Lomachenko and Gervonta Davis as possible opponents, but will only face them if they agree to travel, which Haney and Loma have done.”
George Kambosos Jr. Only Wants Big Fight In Australia
Of course, Kambosos could have easily gone for a much safer option for his first title defense in front of his home fans.
But that’s not how he operates.
“I wouldn’t be true to myself if I sucked the crowd and said, ‘I’m coming back for an easy fight.’ What for? I’m coming for the big names, and we are in negotiations with everybody,” Kambosos said. “I love the Haney fight, the Lomachenko fight, ‘Tank’ as well.”
Either one of those fights would certainly be a spectacle given the occasion.
