Gervonta Davis Claims He’s The Face Of Boxing Right Now
Gervonta Davis believes he is the face of boxing right now.
Boxing has a lot of stars right now from Tyson Fury to Anthony Joshua to Canelo Alvarez, but Davis believes he is the biggest name in the sport and the face of the sport.
“I feel as though I’m the face of boxing right now,” said Davis to Showtime Sports during a recent interview (h/t BoxingScene).
Although many may scoff at his claim, Davis has been selling out arenas for years and is a pay-per-view star, which is tough to be in this current day. Even in his last fight, Davis fought Hector Luis Garcia, who was not known to most fans and the pay-per-view still did 220k buys.
But, in his next fight, Davis will really show how much he can sell as he is set to take on Ryan Garcia in a highly-anticipated fight.
Why Gervonta Davis believes he can sell and is a big star is due to the fact he had a close relationship with Floyd Mayweather and is just following in his footsteps.
“It’s a lot of fighters, if you watch, they do everything that I do. When Floyd was coming through, when Oscar was coming through, it’s something that you can’t teach,” Davis said. “It’s just in you. When Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, and all the greats were coming through, everybody wanted to be like that. That’s why a lot of people are calling my name.”
Gervonta Davis (28-0) is coming off a TKO win over Hector Luis Garcia in a tune-up fight for the Ryan Garcia fight. In his career, he holds notable wins over Isaac Cruz, Mario Barrios, Rolly Romero, Leo Santa Cruz, Yuriorkis Gamboa, and Francisco Fonseca among others.
