Gervonta Davis Fires Back At Shakur Stevenson, Says He Doesn’t Have Power Like Him
Gervonta Davis has clapped back at Shakur Stevenson.
Davis is set to face Hector Luis Garcia on Saturday in Washington D.C. and should he win, he will face Ryan Garcia in April. He has also said he wants three fights in 2023, with the other being against either Devin Haney or Stevenson, given Stevenson recently took some shots at him.
“I ain’t gonna take away credit from the dude. I think that [Davis is] a helluva fighter. I mean, look at him,” Stevenson said. “He’s fighting pay-per-view knocking these dudes out. That don’t take away the fact that I can beat this dude. This dude knows he can’t beat me.”
To no surprise, in the lead-up to Davis vs. Garcia on Saturday, ‘Tank’ took some of his media opportunity to fire back at Stevenson. Davis doesn’t think Stevenson should be talking as he criticized his power.
“Why [is Stevenson] talking like he’s the best? He didn’t even fight at 135 yet. He didn’t even have power at 126 or 130 or none of that,” Davis told Luke Thomas of the Morning Kombat (h/t BoxingScene). “All that stuff is OK. How can you stop people that can actually hit? No matter all that boxing, you’re going to get hit. Whatcha gonna do when you get hit?”
There is no question a fight between Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson would be massive and the lead-up would be full of trash-talking. But, in order for it to come to fruition, both men must win their next couple of fights to set up this high-profile showdown.
Davis is currently 27-0 and coming off a TKO win over Rolly Romero back in May and before that, scored a decision win over Isaac Cruz.
Who do you think would win if Gervonta Davis fought Shakur Stevenson this year?
