Jaime Munguia Hoping To Return On April 24, Several Opponents As Options
Jaime Munguia is looking to return on April 24, ESPN Deportes reported.
Munguia (36-0, 29 KOs) is coming off a Tureano Johnson in October of 2020 as Munguia landed a vicious uppercut that split Johnson’s lip that ended the fight. He also became the WBO light middleweight champion in 2018 and has retained it five times as well as claiming the WBO Inter-Continental middleweight titles.
There are several opponents listed for Munguia’s next fight as D’Mitrius Ballard, Jason Quigley, and Luke Keeler are options. However, Munguia and his team called for a fight against GGG earlier this year.
“Munguía’s with Golovkin is a fight that I like a lot, we are looking for it, but in case nothing is achieved, we will fight in April. We are not going to wait until they say, “Beltrán said in a talk with ESPN KNOCKOUT. “Through the ages and moments, it reminds me a bit of when Érik Morales dethroned Daniel Zaragoza to reach stardom. Jaime has everything to be a star and that is why we seek to keep him active and improving, he is the champion of the people for his dedication in the ring and his spectacular style.”
It is uncertain if GGG would take that fight, but Jaime Munguia and his team would like it to happen. It would be a fantastic fight and the winner could very well be the next opponent for Canelo Alvarez.
“We are very interested, we had some talks with our partner Fernando Beltrán and we are looking at that possibility, there is a lot of interest, we obviously have Jaime Munguía in mind for the boxing events on the Cinco de Mayo weekend, and if not Gennadiy Golovkin, we are looking at other options,” Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gómez shared with ESPN KNOCKOUT.
