Jaime Munguia vs. Gabriel Rosado Targeted For October
Jaime Munguia and Gabriel Rosado will meet in the squared circle in late October.
Munguia was named in an ordered WBC title eliminator with Sergey Derevyanchenko, however, according to Boxingscene.com, Munguia will headline a DAZN show against Rosado with the fight likely taking place on October 23.
This is a fight that both fighters have called for and now it appears they will be fighting in just over a month.
“In talks with Golden Boy to make this epic fight happen in the fall,” Rosado confirmed earlier this summer. “The people want it. It’s time to deliver!”
“Let’s make it happen,” Munguia replied via social media, the short-and-sweet message accompanied by photos of the two boxers face to face following their respective wins in June.
Jaime Munguia (37-0) is coming off a win over Kamil Szeremeta back in June to retain his WBO Inter-Continental middleweight title. Prior to that, he also earned stoppage wins over Tureano Johnson and Gary O’Sullivan. The 24-year-old also holds notable wins over Liam Smith, Sadam Ali, and Alvaro Robles.
Gabriel Rosado (26-13-1 and one No Contest) actually fought on the same card as Munguia back in June and he returned to the win column with a KO victory over Bektemir Melikuziev after losing a split decision to Daniel Jacobs before that.
If Munguia wins, he would face Derevyanchenko next time out. After that, he has made it clear he wants to win titles in multiple divisions.
“Winning a world title at 154 was a great feeling, meant so much to me. The hard work paid off, it took lots of preparation,” Munguia said to El Paso Times. I want to continue to get better. One-sixty is a new challenge and I always want to look for those challenges. Right now I’m focused at 160 pounds and I want to be the best I can be at this weight. My goal is fight for a world title by the end of the year.”
