Jake Paul Believes Tommy Fury’s Dad Is Hindering His Boxing Career
Jake Paul has an interesting thought on Tommy Fury’s career.
Paul and Fury are set to finally meet on Sunday in Saudi Arabia in a highly-anticipated matchup. It’s a big fight and both men have been vocal in saying they will KO the other, but now, Paul believes John Fury – Tommy’s dad – is hindering Tommy’s boxing career.
“I’m getting 33 percent better each year, because I’ve only been boxing three years. I am increasing exponentially, whereas Tommy’s done it for 12 years, so how much can his skill level really improve? He’s really stuck in his ways of how he is as a boxer, especially with his dad training him,” Paul told The Sun. “He’s worked with other trainers who are way better, but his dad is actually hindering him and making him a worse fighter.”
Although Jake Paul believes Jon Fury is hindering Tommy Fury’s career, Fury has been clear his dad is his main trainer and knows he is getting his best boxing with John as his trainer.
“My dad’s my primary trainer, he’s always been my primary trainer,” Fury said. “For anyone out there saying we can’t do this or that, this is another fight where we’re going to show you what we can do.”
Jake Paul (6-0) is coming off a decision win over Anderson Silva back in October in the biggest fight of his career. Prior to that, he had back-to-back wins over Tyron Woodley, with the second fight being by KO after the first was a split decision. He also has KO wins over Ben Askren, Nate Robinson, and YouTuber AnEsonGib.
Tommy Fury (8-0) fought in November in an exhibition match in a fight Paul commentated on which added hype to this matchup. In his pro career, he doesn’t have any notable wins of note but did beat Anthony Taylor by decision on the same card Paul edged out a split decision win over Tyron Woodley.
