Jake Paul Calls Himself A New Fighter After Decision Win Over Nate Diaz
Jake Paul believes he proved to be a completely new fighter on Saturday night.
Paul was coming off a split-decision loss to Tommy Fury back in February for his first career loss. To rebound, Paul was set to box longtime UFC fighter Nate Diaz in a highly-anticipated match.
Ahead of the fight, Jake Paul changed his team around and he was vocal in saying how much he improved.
“The loss was seriously the best thing. It set me on the path I was supposed to be on and you can’t cut corners in this sport. I was in the gym the day after the loss. I flew back from the Middle East and went to the gym every single day up until this fight,” Paul said after the win.
Against Nate Diaz, Jake Paul boxed 10 rounds, which was impressive for just his eighth pro fight. Paul proved he has the cardio to go 10 hard rounds and the brash YouTuber-turned-boxer believes it proved he is new fighter, and a better one in that.
“I’m a new fighter. The new team we brought in, the new strength and conditioning—- everything was new and I worked harder this camp. It pushed me to my limits. There were moments in the gym where I thought, ‘Damn I don’t even know if I can do this,’ but I just kept on believing in myself and now my gas tank is crazy. I could have kept on going. I could have gone twelve rounds and we are just stepping up and up, and after doing it in three years- I’m happy with myself,” Paul said.
“It was fun and I knew [Diaz] was trying to take breaks so I would pounce on him when he was doing that. We were talking to each other the whole fight. When you’re in there with another dog, you can sense it. It just makes the sport more fun and this fight was probably the most memorable yet,” Paul concluded.
Jake Paul is now 7-1 as a pro following his lopsided decision win over Nate Diaz.
