Jake Paul & Tyron Woodley Will Be Drug Tested Following Bout After All
Despite some initial issues, Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley will be tested for banned substances following their bout.
Tonight (Aug. 29), Paul and Woodley will collide inside the boxing ring. The action will be held inside the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio. The eight-round cruiserweight bout will headline a Showtime PPV.
Mike Bohn of MMAJunkie reported that Paul and Woodley wouldn’t be subject to fight night drug testing. Initially, that was only reserved for title fights. While Bohn’s report was correct, something has changed as reported by ESPN’s Mike Coppinger.
“Source: Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley will be tested for PEDs by the Ohio commission following the fight tonight. Initially, there was an issue with the number of test kits available. That’s been rectified. Mike Bohn reported there wouldn’t be testing, which was correct at the time.”
Ahead of the fight, Woodley told reporters that he didn’t take the Paul fight just for a big payday (via BoxingScene).
“I didn’t get in this to get a quick payday, to get in and get out. This is an instream to boxing for me, for sure.
“I plan to continue to fight boxing. It’s not going to hurt me to just focus just on striking, focus on my punching, my positioning, my defense, just being mobile. When I fight my next mixed martial arts fight, I’m going to go in with more tools and be sharper.”
Paul told The Sun that he feels he’ll one day share the ring with Canelo Alvarez in a world title bout.
“I am the most impactful 3-0 boxer in history. No fighter has ever accomplished what I’ve accomplished after three fights. People say I don’t deserve it but I’m earning more than any fighter, three fights in. I haven’t been hit in the face in three fights. That’s a fact. That’s unheard of for a professional boxer. I want to add experience. I want to go after Canelo in three years. I want to be a world champion.”
