Jake Paul Wants To Fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. To ‘Silence The Critics’
Jake Paul is eager to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. next.
Following his knockout of Tyron Woodley last month, it was revealed that Paul was targeting a fight with Chavez Jr.
Chavez Jr. would later confirm this as he revealed negotiations were currently in progress.
Of course, most people were surprised as many expected Paul to either target Tommy Fury or another MMA fighter.
However, the YouTuber-turned-boxer wants Chavez Jr. specifically as he is a real boxer who was a former WBC middleweight champion — especially with all the complaints about Paul strategically picking his opponents.
“I like that fight a lot because it silences the critics,” Paul said in a recent interview (via Michael Benson). “He was a world champion and I know I could beat him…
“I want to fight a real boxer and I’m going to, have some f***ing patience.”
Is Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Next?
Although Chavez Jr. has his problems and has lost four of his last seven outings, he is certainly a real boxer and undoubtedly the biggest step up for Paul.
And while he confirmed negotiations were in progress last month, the Mexican certainly wants it on his terms.
“Jake Paul and his people contacted me regarding a fight with Paul,” Chavez Jr. said. “I said yes, but then again Lupe Valencia, who is with Paul now and used to be with me a few years back, said they offered me one to three million dollars plus PPV.
“When it’s a fight that can sell millions and can break records because he is popular and I have a name, I’m a former world champion, so I made it clear that it has to be a 50/50 split for me to take the fight.”
