Jared Anderson vs. Deontay Wilder Targeted For August
Jared Anderson has gotten his wish of getting a top-name heavyweight next time out.
Anderson had been calling to get a top-ranked heavyweight for a while now, and according to Turki Alalshikh, the plan is for him to box Deontay Wilder next time out.
Wilder is set to box Zhilei Zhang on June 1, and should ‘The Bronze Bomber’ win and come out unscathed, the plan is for him to face Anderson on August 3.
“The talented Jared Anderson is with us now on August 3rd Riyadh Season card at LA against the “Bronze Bomber” Deontay Wilder – if he’s ready by then to fight after 1st of June’s fight against Zhilei Zhang. I always believe that boxing would be at its peak when you have young American heavyweights like Jared Anderson which I also believe in his talent and his promising future. my advice to him ” Focus on your future, training, and commitment and you will reach to your goals.” Happy to collaborate with Top Rank again – Riyadh Season card 3rd of August in LA, will be one for the history!,” Alalshikh wrote.
Jared Anderson (17-0) is coming off a decision win over Ryad Merhy back in April to retain the WBC-USNBC and WBO international heavyweight titles. Before that, Anderson scored a TKO win over Andriy Rudenko, and a decision win over Charles Martin. He also has notable wins over Miljan Rovcanin and Jerry Forest among others.
Deontay Wilder, meanwhile, is set to box Zhilei Zhang on June 1. Wilder is coming off an upset loss to Joseph Parker back in December and is 1-3 in his last four. Before the loss to Parker, he scored a KO win over Robert Helenius after back-to-back losses to Tyson Fury.
As long as Wilder beats Zhang and isn’t hurt, he’ll be having a quick turnaround in a pivotal fight against Anderson.
