Javier Fortuna Believes He Has To KO Ryan Garcia In Order To Win: ‘I Won’t Win The Fight On The Scorecards Anyway’
Javier Fortuna believes he will need to KO Ryan Garcia on Saturday night if he is going to win the fight.
Fortuna and Garcia are set to headline a DAZN card from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California on Saturday. Heading into the fight, Fortuna is well-aware that Garcia is hyped-up and with that, he thinks even if he drops Garcia multiple times, he will not win on the scorecards.
“I have to knock him out,” Fortuna told BoxingScene.com following their press conference Thursday at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel. “I can’t let it go to the scorecards. Even if I drop him several times, I won’t win the fight on the scorecards anyway.”
Javier Fortuna has seen him fighting the hyped-up prospect and lose controversial decisions in the past which is why he thinks this. He lost by split decision to Robert Easter Jr. and dropped a unanimous-decision defeat to Joseph Diaz Jr., yet many thought he clearly beat Easter Jr. in January of 2018.
“Obviously, there’s been a couple of times in my career where that’s happened,” Fortuna said during the press conference. “I left it up to the judges and it wasn’t a good thing. Now, you know, it’s either he kills me or I kill him.”
Although Fortuna believes he needs to KO Garcia to win, for the undefeated fighter, he says he just wants to do something amazing. He knows Fortuna will be coming at him which will only add to the excitement of the fight.
“You know what? I’m just determined to do something amazing, entertain the fans, give ‘em a good show,” Garcia said. “You know, so I’ll be looking to do something amazing in the ring. He wants to knock me out as well, so we’re coming in, we’re gonna throw our punches and we’re gonna give the fans a great fight.”
