Jermall Charlo He’s Ready To Fight Anybody After Maciej Sulecki: ‘Munguia, Benavidez, Whatever’
Jermall Charlo says he is ready to fight whoever next.
Charlo is the current WBC middleweight and set to face Maciej Sulecki on June 18 at the Toyota Center in Charlo’s hometown of Houston, Texas. It’s an intriguing matchup but not the big fight many wanted to see Charlo take and for him, after this fight, he says he’ll face anybody.
“I’m ready, I’m ready for anybody,” Charlo said during a recent Zoom media conference call. “They can get me whoever they want to get me. [Sulecki], Munguia, Benavidez, whatever. A name is just a name. It’s just a person to me.”
According to several reports, this fight was supposed to be Charlo vs. the 39-0 Jaime Munguia in what would be a great fight. Yet, after everything was agreed to in weight, date, location, and money, the fight was off. Munguia’s co-promoters, Zanfer Boxing and Golden Boy Promotions wanted to keep him on DAZN rather than be on Showtime which is where Charlo fights, but the champ is still hoping the fight happens.
If the Munguia fight does not happen next, Charlo is open to facing David Benavidez, or any other top contender.
For now, Jermall Charlo (32-0) is coming off the win over Juan Macias Montiel by decision last June. Although this is not a big fight that many wanted, as Sulecki is just 30-2 and has lost to Daniel Jacobs and Demetrius Andrade. Yet, it still is a fight for Charlo to defend his belt and add to his resume and for him, he says he’s in his prime and ready to box anyone.
“I’m in my prime. I’m ready for everybody,” insists Charlo. “Whoever they put in front of me, I just do what I gotta do, make the adjustments to win. At the end of the day, you’re gonna see the real fighter come out of me.”
