Jermall Charlo Tells Canelo Alvarez To Pick Him Next
Jermall Charlo tells Canelo Alvarez he should be his next opponent.
Charlo scored a unanimous decision victory over Jose Benavidez Jr. on Saturday night, but he had missed weight by 3.5 pounds. Although he missed weight, Charlo is confident he can make 160lbs and thinks the story makes a lot of sense for him to box Alvarez next.
“Pick me,” Charlo said when he was asked if he had a message for Alvarez (h/t BoxingScene). “Yeah, I know y’all seen him fight my twin brother, but it’s a whole different twin. You know, I’m not bashing nothing my brother did. He dared to be great, jumping up two weight classes to go fight Canelo. You know, technically, that was my time to shine, but you know, I wouldn’t have felt as good going into that fight, like I did tonight.
“I mean, you know, not saying anything about Benavidez and comparing those two, but you know, Canelo’s on a way [higher] level from Benavidez. So, I think that fight woulda made me get up for it. I really wasn’t like motivated by this fight, but I got it done, you know?,” Charlo continued.
As of right now, it’s uncertain if Canelo Alvarez is interested in facing Jermall Charlo, but the fight would be massive. However, if Charlo doesn’t get the title fight, it would likely be David Benavidez getting the bout against Alvarez.
Jermall Charlo is 33-0 and coming off the win over Jose Benavidez Jr. on Saturday. Prior to that, he beat Juan Macias Montiel by decision. He also holds notable wins over Sergiy Derevyanchenko.
