Joe Joyce Believes He Would ‘Bang Usyk Up’ In A Potential Rematch
Joe Joyce believes he would defeat Oleksandr Usyk in a potential rematch.
Joyce and Usyk fought as amateurs in 2013 with Usyk winning a decision. Since then, the Ukrainian has gone on to become the undisputed cruiserweight champ and now the current IBF, IBO, WBA, and WBO heavyweight champ. He’s set to rematch Anthony Joshua and should he win, it’s uncertain who would be next and Joyce wants to get that fight back.
“I’ll be coming with a more skills,” Joyce explained to Boxing Social. “I have [coach Ismael] Salas by my side to set the gameplan and work on the skills etc. I didn’t even get Southpaw sparring for the first fight I had with Usyk. I think that on the repeat, styles make fights and I reckon I’ll bang him up.”
Joe Joyce is 13-0 and coming off a TKO win over Carlos Takam last July and is set to return on July 2 against an opponent TBD. If he wins that, he could very well be in the title picture as he would be 14-0 and does have a notable win over Daniel Dubois.
Although Usyk and Joshua still have to have their rematch, Joyce believes Usyk will win again which will set up their rematch.
“I thought as soon as the fight started with him and Usyk, Usyk went straight to work,” Joyce said. “He knew how to beat Joshua and now that he’s already beaten him, to do it again will be kind of the same. That’s unless Joshua makes some drastic changes, which I guess he did against [Andy] Ruiz and then he can say ‘three time’. But maybe it’s all part of the plan, I don’t know.”
