John Fury Believes Tyson Fury At 70% Is Good Enough To Beat Oleksandr Usyk
John Fury says Tyson Fury’s performance against Francis Ngannou was a wake-up call to them.
Fury entered the fight as a massive betting favorite and many expected him to cruise to a win. However, the fight was more comeptive than people thought and Ngannou even dropped Fury.
Tyson Fury ended up edging out a split decision and he will now face Oleksandr Usyk on February 17 in Saudi Arabia. Heading into the fight, John Fury says his son used the Ngannou fight as a wake-up call and the two are extremely confident he will beat Usyk later this month.
“Absolutely. Everybody needs a wake-up call now and again and without these wake-up calls, you’re never going to wake up are you? Tyson has tended to get a bit lackadaisical with what he’s doing, but he’s always been a good worker. Against Ngannou, he had to rely on how good he is because he underestimated Francis and it was only me saying that Ngannou is a world champion in his own right, he’s the hardest hitting heavyweight on record and that needed to be respected,” John Fury said to Betfred.
“The fact that people were saying that it’s only Francis’ first fight was a load of rubbish because he’s been kicked in the face, elbowed in the face and stamped in the face. He’s not going to be bothered by a right-hander or a left hook is he Tyson’s team totally got it wrong and I stand by that statement. Let’s hope they’ve learnt from that fight and if they haven’t, then Usyk will win because you need to prepare properly and it’s more about brains than anything and you need brains in your corner. Usyk’s got them, so let’s see if Tyson’s team can match Usyk’s team but from what I’ve seen, I don’t think they can,” Fury continued.
“Forget Tyson’s team because he’s that great, just wind him up and let him go because all they can do for him is give him a drink of water. Tyson has too much knowledge, too much heart, too much skill, too much determination and he’s far too big, so a 70% Tyson will do the trick,” John Fury concluded.
Tyson Fury currently is a -140 favorite to defeat Oleksandr Usyk.
