John Fury Says Anthony Joshua Corner Is To Blame For Oleksandr Usyk Defeat
Anthony Joshua should not take all the blame for his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk. That’s according to Tyson Fury‘s father John who was commenting on the fight.
Despite Joshua being a slight favorite going into the title fight this past weekend, it was Usyk who outclassed him over 12 rounds to win a comfortable unanimous decision and become the new unified heavyweight champion.
While a rematch is likely on the cards, not many are confident in Joshua’s chances especially given Usyk’s boxing pedigree.
However, the reason for Joshua’s defeat was not entirely on him.
The senior Fury believes the blame lies with the corner of “AJ” instead as they failed to switch up the gameplan despite Joshua going down more than a couple of rounds early on (via Michael Benson).
“When your plan ain’t working, it’s up to the corner to switch it up, and they never… They didn’t try and change it – it’s his corner’s fault… Give AJ a break. It wasn’t all AJ’s fault, it was his corner.”
While Joshua did do well to win back some rounds mid-fight, he didn’t have a drastic change in approach that could have swung the tide his way.
And that’s down to his corner.
