John Ryder Believes He’s ‘Earned This Shot’ Against Canelo Alvarez ‘Three Times Over’
John Ryder knows he deserves his chance at boxing Canelo Alvarez.
Ryder will officially face Alvarez in Mexico on Cinco de Mayo weekend which is always a massive event, and now given the fact it is in Mexico will only add to that. However, when the fight was announced, many fans thought it was an easy tuneup for Alvarez but Ryder isn’t having any of that, instead, he says this proves he belongs.
“It seemed like a lifetime away months and years ago,” Ryder said on Matchroom Boxing’s YouTube channel. “But I’m finally here now and I feel like I really do deserve to be here. I’ve paid my dues in this sport and I’ve earned this shot three times over for me. So, yeah, I feel like I really deserve to be here and deserve this shot.”
John Ryder is 32-5 and riding a four-fight winning streak and is coming off a stoppage win over Zach Parker and before that, he beat Daniel Jacobs. Although Ryder has lost to opponents that Alvarez beat with ease, the 34-year-old Brit believes he is much better and will prove everyone wrong on May 6.
“Don’t shoot me down,” Ryder said. “I’m still dreaming, so let me live my dream. And listen, keep your opinions to yourself. I’m not reading them, don’t care. I’m doing this for me. I’m not doing it for you. Go about your business. Life can’t be that bad that you gotta worry about me too much.”
Currently, Ryder is a massive +770 underdog as the oddsmakers are implying he has a 12.5% chance of defeating Alvarez in Mexico. But, it is boxing and anything can happen and Ryder is confident he will get his hand raised.
