Joseph Diaz says He’s back Loving Boxing Ahead Of oscar Duarte Bout
Joseph Diaz is looking to revive his career on Saturday when he faces Oscar Durarte at the SaveMart center in Fresno.
Diaz will also have a new head coach as Christian Guevara takes over as his trainer. Guevara is excited about what they can accomplish together.
“We get along in a lot of perspectives, like how we see life, which helps out a lot,” said Guevara of the new partnership (via BoxingScene). “It almost feels like a brotherhood. We can just talk to each other without having to question some things.”
Diaz, meanwhile, is excited to work with Guevara as he believes he’s going back to his old self in his return to the ring.
“He is a very good person,” Diaz told BoxingScene. “We covered all the bases in there – going back to how I used to fight – going back to loving boxing and enjoying it.”
Diaz is 33-5-1 and is 1-3 in his last four fights. He’s coming off a split decision loss in February, but Guevara is confident the quick turnaround is good for Diaz.
“What [the quick return] shows from that is, he is hungry and motivated,” said Guevara. “I think it is a positive thing from the perspective that he is in shape, he is coming right back to work. I see it as a positive.”
Diaz enters the bout against Duarte as a sizeable underdog.
