Josh Taylor Confident He Would Easily Beat Teofimo Lopez
Josh Taylor believes he would beat Teofimo Lopez rather easily if they were to fight.
Lopez has moved up to 140lbs and is now 2-0 but is coming off a controversial decision over Sandor Martin. After the fight, he wondered if he still has it but still wants the big fights like potentially the winner of Josh Taylor vs. Jack Catterall.
If that fight happens, Taylor knows Lopez is a skilled fighter but he believes he will be able to beat him to bits.
“He is a very good, very skilled fighter, but I do believe that on my night I take him to bits,” Taylor told Sky Sports News. “He’s a bit of a clown. He seems to look past his opponents all the time. It’s twice he’s made the same mistake and almost paid the price for it again. His comments from beforehand… he seems to have the same reoccurring problem, he thinks he’s god’s gift, and then he comes crashing back down to Earth with a bang. I was confident of beating him anyway. Let’s not forget, he did very well to beat Lomachenko, but he beat a small, injured lightweight that really could make featherweight. You’ve got to give credit where it’s due, but he’s not in there with blown up featherweights anymore.”
Josh Taylor (19-0) is coming off the split decision win over Catterall and the two will likely run it back next time out. He’s currently the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring light welterweight champion. In his career, he holds notable wins over Jose Ramirez, Regis Prograis, Ivan Baranchyk, and Ryan Martin among others.
Teofimo Lopez (18-1) is on a two-fight win streak as he beat Martin and TKO’d Pedro Campa in his move up to 140lbs after losing his lightweight titles against George Kambosos Jr. back in 2021.
