Josh Taylor Eyes Third Fight With Jack Catterall
Josh Taylor is hoping to get a third fight with Jack Catterall after he lost a decision in their rematch on Saturday.
Taylor scored a controversial decision win over Catterall in the first fight and in the rematch, Catterall got his revenge as he got his hand raised. It was a back-and-forth fight, but Catterall did enough to get the win.
Following the loss, Josh Taylor says he feels like he won so he’s hoping to secure a third bout.
“I thought it was a great fight,” Taylor said. “Fair play to Jack. He was a better fighter than the first fight. But listen, I thought I just nicked the fight, to be fair. I thought I just nicked it. It was a close fight, but the controversy in the first fight played into the judges’ hands. But I think I just nicked the fight there, to be honest. Listen, fair play to Jack. He won the fight. Let’s do a third one.
“If he wants to go and challenge for bigger fights, he deserves it. But it’s one apiece, so let’s do it. Let’s do a trilogy,” Taylor added. “There always was [respect]. It’s the respect of the fighters. That’s a winning nature, and a competitive nature, and a will to win. There’s always respect. Even with people you dislike, there’s always respect.”
Although Taylor wants a third fight with Catterall, it’s uncertain if he will get it, as Catterall will look to try and get a title shot next.
With the loss, Taylor is 19-2 and is on a two-fight losing streak, as before the loss to Catterall, he lost his titles as he dropped a decision to Teofimo Lopez. In his career, he holds notable wins over Catterall, Jose Ramirez, Regis Prograis, and Ivan Baranchyk.
