Josh Taylor Says He’s Forgotten About Jack Catterall But Believes Rematch Will Happen At Some Point
Josh Taylor isn’t worried about rematching Jack Catterall as he says he has forgotten about him.
Taylor and Catterall fought in February of 2022 and Taylor won a controversial split decision to retain his title. Many fans thought Catterall pulled off the upset, but the judges didn’t agree. Since the fight, many thought an immediate rematch would happen but it won’t.
Instead, Taylor will defend his titles on June 10 against Teofimo Lopez and because of that, the Scottish boxer says he has forgotten about Catterall.
“I’ve forgotten about him,” Taylor said of Catterall in an interview with iFL TV (via BoxingScene). “Teofimo Lopez it’s looking to be [my next fight]. It would be foolish of me to make the same mistake again: Looking at a different fighter when you got one in front of you. So, I’ve learned that lesson the last time. I’ve forgotten about that fight. It’s away for the time being. It’s done, it’s dusted. He’s gonna have to forget about it for the time being as well.”
With Taylor defending his title against Lopez, he says Catterall needs to get some wins and stop worrying about the rematch. If Catterall is really that good he will continue to win and prove he deserves the shot at the rematch.
“He’s made a couple of interviews; he’s still pissing and moaning about it,” Taylor said of Catterall. “It’s time for him to move on. If he really believes himself and beats these other fighters go ahead and fight these f—— fights. Stop waiting on me, because I’ve had to move on because of the WBO situation.”
Although Josh Taylor says he has forgotten about Jack Catterall, he does believe the two will fight before their careers are over.
“The fight is always going to be there,” Taylor said. “It will happen at some point in the future.”
Do you think we see the rematch between Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall happen sometime?
