Joshua opens door to Tyson Fury fight
With his win over Kubrat Pulev, Anthony Joshua has opened all doors for a fight with Tyson Fury and with that the possibility of uniting all belts in the heavyweight division. Anthony Joshua dominated in December against Pulev and defeated the mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev with a knockout in the ninth round. With that, he successfully defended his WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles in the SSE Arena at Wembley. It was the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic that spectators were allowed at a British fight. 1,000 fans were admitted to watch the heavyweight fight.
The first few rounds got off to a slow start and there was a lot of scrambling. But in the third round, Joshua loosened up and this resulted in a number of punches which earned Pulev a count. Also, Pulev went to the ground once more and got a knockdown. Yet Pulev held his ground and managed to get back in the match. It even started to look like Joshua was boxing towards a victory on points, until Joshua stepped up another gear. With a series of short uppercuts, the champion made it very difficult for his opponent and Pulev dropped to his knees several times. Pulev had already survived three counts from the referee when it was finally his right hand that Joshua used to knock out his opponent Pulev and end the fight. Joshua set his record at 24-1 with the 22nd knockout of his career. Pulev, meanwhile, suffered only his second professional defeat and now stands at 28-2 with 14 victories by KO.
Now that Anthony Joshua has defeated the mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev, a fight with Tyson Fury seems to be on the cards. A fight that all boxing fans will be eagerly looking forward to. Anthony Joshua will get the chance to unify all heavyweight titles. But Tyson Fury is not just any opponent. He won convincingly against Deontay Wilder and is perhaps better than ever.

Although no date has been set yet, boxer Tyson Fury is already looking forward to a fight with Anthony Joshua. He is very likely to be the next opponent of the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight champion. Joshua successfully defended his belts in December against Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev. There has been talk of a fight with WBC titleholder Fury for some time, but it never came to that.
“I’ve always said I think Joshua is made for someone with my style. It will be one of the most explosive and fastest fights ever. My goal is to knock him out within four rounds,” the 32-year-old Fury said on the TV programme Good Morning Britain. “We’ll see how it all turns out. Let’s hope the fight comes. In any case, I want it badly. I’ve wanted it for five years and I’m hopeful it will happen in 2021.” In the boxing world, a clash between Britons Fury and Joshua is hugely anticipated. Fury has thirty victories in 31 matches (one match undecided) and Joshua only lost once. There are still some hurdles to take before a confrontation. Fury is still under contract for a third fight with the American Deontay Wilder, and the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk is said to be interested in a match against Joshua.
