Juan Francisco Estrada vs. Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez Trilogy Set For October 16
Juan Francisco Estrada and Roman Gonzalez will get another chance to deliver a fight of the year candidate.
The pair only collided in a rematch in March for the super flyweight title as Estrada won a controversial split decision over Gonzalez.
What couldn’t be disputed, however, was the quality of the fight as both fighters combined for a record 2529 punches in what was undoubtedly 2021’s fight of the year.
Now, they’ll run things back for a third time as the trilogy is slated for October 16 in the United States as per Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn.
Los Angeles is expected to be a frontrunner to host the event.
“Chocolatito” won their original contest via unanimous decision when they fought in a light flyweight bout in 2012. Many felt Gonzalez had done enough to win a second time in the rematch only for two of the three judges to score it different.
The scorecards for the rematch were 115-113 for Gonzalez, and 117-111 and 115-113 for Estrada.
Who do you have winning the trilogy?
