Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Believes Anderson Silva Fight Could’ve Been A Draw
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. believes his fight against Anderson Silva should’ve been a draw.
Chavez Jr. fought former UFC middleweight champion, Silva in a highly-anticipated bout. It was an intriguing matchup but many thought the Mexican would win the fight. Unfortunately, Silva clearly won the fight but it was ruled a split decision. The judges saw it 77-75, 77-75, 75-77 for the Brazilian.
After the fight, Silva was overcome with emotion as he was on a lengthy losing skid in his UFC career. It was a big moment for the former UFC champ.
“I feel so happy,” Silva said (via BoxingScene). “I need to say thank you cause my coach worked with me a lot. I need to this because I love fighting and boxing is my dream for many, many years and I need to prove my respect for boxing. I can’t come in here and not do my best.”
Although many thought Silva clearly won the fight, Chavez Jr. disagrees. Instead, the Mexican believes the fight should’ve been a draw as Silva didn’t do any damage with his punches.
“It could have been draw,” Chavez Jr. said. “I failed to throw more punches. He didn’t really do much damage. But it was enough for a draw.”
With the loss, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is now 52-6-1 and one No Contest as a pro. He entered the fight on Saturday coming off a TKO win over Jeyson Minda back in November. He’s the former WBC middleweight champ but lost that belt back in 2012 in a decision loss to Sergio Martinez.
